Basketball, Passalacqua Ragusa also beats San Martino di Lupari

Fourth consecutive victory for Passalacqua Ragusa against a team certainly not as easy to beat as San Martino di Lupari who has done so much good in this start to the championship. A victory made even more important due to the absence of Ilaria Milazzo who unfortunately fractured the metatarsal of her hand during the week and will be out for a few weeks.

The game was immediately close between the two teams who battled hard especially in the first part of the match. San Martino starts well with Soule and Kostowicz, expertly triggered by D’Alie’s direction, Ragusa holds its own but slips to -8 at the end of the second quarter before a triple from Spreafico at the end of the second half sets the score in the interval with the host down 5 points: 32-37. The approach, especially defensive, of the hosts in the third quarter is totally different. Ragusa changes face and places the decisive break also thanks to the triples of the captain herself who in the end scores 25 with 7 out of 11 from beyond the arc. The hosts accumulate the advantage, Chidom also enters the game definitively, Thomas finds important baskets, Pastrello and Miccoli are invaluable. San Martino is unable to keep up with an excellent Ragusa who deservedly wins 87-60.

“Unfortunately, the week was still a difficult one with Milazzo’s injury and Miccoli not being at his best – comments coach Lino Lardo – San Martino was truly the surprise of the championship in this first part. The girls were very focused and I have to thank them as well as the girls from Serie B and the youth sector who help us a lot. We expected this start of San Martino and with the shortened rotations in the small teams we suffered this pressure. But after the first part we came out well in the third quarter with a super defense, we mixed up the defenses and that was definitely the key. Schio and Venezia await us now, which will be two very difficult matches, but we enjoy this victory knowing that by playing like this we can get a lot of satisfaction. I want to once again send a message against violence against women after the beautiful demonstration that took place at PalaPadua yesterday. We firmly believe in a society that can erase all this and we will work every day to make it happen. As people and as a team.”
