The Berlin court decided based on the application from the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, according to which a fine of 90 daily rates of 5,000 euros should be imposed. Zverev is accused of physically abusing his ex-girlfriend during an argument in Berlin in May 2020. Alexander Zverev has objected to the penalty order, as the court spokeswoman announced. The district court will therefore hear the parties involved again before a court hearing is expected to take place. Zverev’s ex-girlfriend appears as a co-plaintiff in the proceedings.

Zverev is presumed innocent until a final conviction is made. The court also makes this clear in its opinion. Zverev’s lawyers published a press release in which they again rejected the allegations and pointed out that they had already been refuted by a forensic report.

This is the second accusation of this kind for Zverev: In October 2020, his ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova made allegations of violence against the tennis star – and the ATP investigated. However, there was no sufficient evidence to support the allegations, the ATP announced at the time after its investigation.
