Boca’s Victory Keeps Hopes Alive for 2024 Copa Libertadores

Boca beat Godoy Cruz 2-1 in Mendoza on the last date of the League Cup and still dreams of qualifying for the 2024 Copa Libertadores. Once the match was over, interim coach Mariano Herrón held the usual press conference in which he touched on several topics, including the performance of his team and his future as coach because in principle it was the last game in charge of the first team.

In the last question, the Xeneize coach was asked about his job in 2024 and if he was thinking about the chance of being confirmed to continue as a coach and before the journalist finished the question, Herrón had a blunt response: “Good evening, we We see,” then he got up from his chair and left the conference.

What Herrón said about Boca’s performance

“I think we had good passages during the 90 minutes, others not so much. “We did what we had to do, which was win, and now we have to wait for tomorrow’s results,” she explained.

In that sense, he added: “Obviously we knew that they are very strong here, that the team had been doing very well and I think that Godoy Cruz played well today. I think we were fair winners, we had good passages and we are happy with a very difficult field.”

Herrón took stock of his interim position at Boca

Mariano Herrón analyzed his interim position at Boca, he directed four games, three were for the League Cup and another for the semifinal of the Argentine Cup. “I am happy with the hand we came to deal and I think the balance is quite good, although we failed in the match that we bet on reaching a new final. Later in the tournament we got 7 points out of a possible 9 and I think it’s pretty good,” he commented.

What Boca needs to qualify for the next Copa Libertadores

He no longer depends on himself, but he has a chance left: Xeneize beat Godoy Cruz 2-1 this Sunday and now he must hope that San Lorenzo does not beat Central Córdoba from Santiago del Estero. Once that result is achieved, he needs River, Tomba or Rosario Central to emerge as champions of the League Cup.

If Estudiantes beat Lanús on Monday, Boca will have to hope that Pincha also wins the Argentine Cup.

It is worth clarifying that Xeneize has sealed its ticket to the Copa Sudamericana, although it would obviously be a blow to the hope of the seventh. Likewise, they have already been left out of the next stage of the League Cup and will not be able to compete for the trophy that is also worth qualifying for the Libertadores.
