The Jumbo-Visma cycling team will continue under the name Team Visma-Lease a Bike as of January 1. Software company Visma will succeed supermarket chain Jumbo as main sponsor and Lease a Bike will become the new second name sponsor. Both companies have signed a contract for an indefinite period.
With Lease a Bike, the team found a financial backer within its own ranks. Lease a Bike is co-owned by the Dutch family multinational Pon and Volkswagen Financial Services and joined the cycling team as a sub-sponsor at the beginning of this year.
“Thanks to Visma and Lease a Bike, the team has the resources to further develop and improve,” Plugge explains. “We have once again proven in the past year that we are capable of growing and achieving success together. That is also our shared goal in the long term.”
Jumbo-Visma has grown into the best cycling team in the world in recent years. This year the team completed a unique trilogy by winning the Giro d’Italia with Primoz Roglic, Jonas Vingegaard’s victory in the Tour de France and Sepp Kuss’s final victory in the Vuelta a España.
Next year, Team Visma-Lease a Bike will have to do without Roglic. The 34-year-old Slovenian continues his career at Bora-hansgrohe. On Thursday, December 21, Team Visma-Lease a Bike will present the team, the new corporate identity and the goals for next year.
