Dominican Republic Strikes Gold in Karate and Judo at VI Venezuela 2023 School Games

Karate and judo deliver the first 2 gold to the DR in the VI Venezuela 2023 School Games

Dominican team also wins 13 silver medals and 11 bronze medals for a total of 26

NEWS, CARACAS. – Jean Michael Keen, in Karate, and King Aquino, in judo, delivered the first 2 gold medals to the Dominican Republic in the VI Central American and Caribbean School Games Venezuela 2023, where it has totaled 26 medals until this Sunday.

Keen, representative of the La Esperanza Polytechnic Institute of Santiago de los Caballeros, won gold in the -55 kilo category, while Aquino, from the Unión Panamericana College, won gold in the 60 kg.

Other silver medals in judo went to Reimi Cuevas, from El Tanque School in Barahona; Luisa Villanueva, Gaston Fernando Deligne High School; Moses Ozuna, from the Polytechnic Morayma Veloz de Baez.

Also, Dafne Saviñón, from El Jardín de Azua School; Yarelis Lucas, from the Fénix de San Cristóbal School; César Rodríguez, from Colegio San Carlos; Carlos Castillo, from the Don Pepe Álvarez Arts Center, and Yiraldi Díaz bronze, from the Juan Lulio Blanchart Santana High School in San Antonio.

In men’s 3×3 basketball, the Dominican team remains undefeated with 2 victories, the first 17-13 against Nicaragua and the second 21-5 against Colombia.

“I invite the Dominican people to continue the participation of our basketball team in this great sporting event,” said Albert Reyes, a member of the team, representing the Monseñor Hugo Eduardo Polanco Brito School in Higüey.

In table tennis, in the men’s doubles category, the athletes Ramón Vila and Eduardo Mejía won the silver medal, after having been beaten 3-1 by the Venezuelan team, while the Quisqueyans Arianna Estrella and Dafne Sosa also succumbed against Venezuela with a score of 3-2.

In the mixed doubles modality Dafne Sosa and Eduardo Mejía add another bronze to the Dominican medal table, and with which table tennis they accumulate a total of 7 medals, 3 gold and 4 bronze.

For her part, Roselyn Reyes, from the women’s 3×3 basketball team, stated that they will give their best for a worthy representation of the Dominican Republic in these school games.

During the chess team coach, Suzette Cabreja, stated that they have formed a good selection, that they have felt very good with the treatment and support received for their participation in the blitz, classic and rapid modalities.

The VI Central American and Caribbean School Games continue this Tuesday with chess, weightlifting, athletics and volleyball, among others in which 908 gold, silver and bronze medals will be distributed.
