Emil Forsberg Considering New Challenge Amid Playing Time Concerns at RB Leipzig

Emil Forsberg (32) is not completely satisfied with his playing time at RB Leipzig. It fits into the picture that, according to a media report, he is taking on a new challenge in the winter. But according to kicker information, it’s not quite that far yet.

The report from “Bild” on Monday sounded clear: it said that Emil Forsberg was leaving RB Leipzig in the winter after nine years and taking on a new challenge at the New York Red Bulls. Financial reasons are also crucial: As one of the three designated players per MLS team, the 32-year-old could earn a lot of money again in the autumn of his career – and ultimately end his career in the “Big Apple”.

But according to kicker information, nothing has been decided yet. The Swedish international is considering moving to the Saxons’ sister club. But the possible transfer is still in its early stages.

Leipzig must first find a replacement

The attacking midfielder is not satisfied with his playing times for the Champions League participants. Although position rival Dani Olmo is again out injured, Forsberg was only in the starting line-up four times in the first eleven Bundesliga matchdays. He never stayed on the field for more than 90 minutes. After all, he started in all four games in the premier class (always kicker grade 4).

In order for Leipzig to agree to a transfer, on the one hand the transfer fee has to be right – after all, the joint contract runs until the summer of 2025. On the other hand, the DFB Cup winners have to find a replacement in the position behind the leaders. This would no longer be adequately staffed without set-piece and pass expert Forsberg and the injury-prone Dani Olmo, despite Xavi’s brilliant performances so far.

The New York Red Bulls had a disappointing season this year, finishing eighth in the Eastern Conference in the main round and failing in the first round of the play-offs against FC Cincinnati (7:8 i.e.). Only two players scored more than three goals in total this season (Omir Fernandez with six and Frankie Amaya with five). There would be plenty of need in the offensive department.
