Emma Raducanu feels mentally prepared for the tasks ahead

The British young hopeful Emma Raducanu, who was dubbed an absolute child prodigy over two years ago, has certainly not had an easy time. The 20-year-old, who has now slipped to position 284 in the WTA rankings, stumbled into a stubborn form crisis after her sensational US Open title in 2021, until a total of three surgical interventions were necessary in the spring of this year – both on the ankle and on both wrists.

Raducanu, who was born in Toronto, played her last game on the WTA tour at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where she clearly lost to Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 2:6, 1:6. But the young Brit’s lengthy and nerve-wracking rehabilitation phase is slowly but surely coming to an end.

No exact comeback date planned yet

According to her own statement, the Grand Slam champion was able to grow particularly mentally during this difficult time, as she told her compatriot Laura Robson on Amazon Prime Video: “The process was very slow and monotonous and sometimes it was really difficult not to worry get bored and keep the long-term goal in mind. [..] But I feel like I’m in a better mental position to compete now than I ever was before or since the US Open.”

“I knew that it would be difficult when you haven’t competed in almost a whole year. I’ll definitely need a few tournaments to get used to it again and get up to speed.” There is no exact comeback time , but she hopes she can be back on the pitch next season.
