European Championship Draw: A Look at the Show Acts and Logistics

The draw for the six four-person preliminary round groups for the home European Championship will take place on Saturday in Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.

From 6 p.m., ARD presenter Esther Sedlaczek (38) and the Portuguese Pedro Pinto (48), already known from previous UEFA draws, will lead the event.

Violinist David Garrett (43) and tenor Jonas Kaufmann (54) will provide the entertainment.

There is also a triple blow: The German Music Council is sending three ensembles to Hamburg to provide the accompaniment to the draw. The Federal Youth Orchestra, the Federal Youth Choir and the Federal Jazz Orchestra will perform.

When the ball is drawn, eleven legends whose countries have already won European Championship titles are included. It is not yet known who exactly the lottery fairies will be.

One thing is certain: Germany is the head of Group A.

The other 23 teams (20 of which have been determined, the other three will be played on March 21st and 26th) will be drawn like this: It starts with pot 1, the first team goes into group B, the second into group C, etc. This is how it works then continue with pots 2 to 4. After each team is drawn, a draw is made to determine which position in the group (1 to 4) it will receive – important for the order of the European Championship games.

The opening game of the European Championship will take place with Germany against Team A2 on June 14th in Munich. The DFB team’s second appearance is on June 19th against A3 in Stuttgart. The last group game follows on June 23rd against A4 in Frankfurt.

The draw will be broadcast in parallel by RTL, ZDF and MagentaTV.
