Former NBA Player Sentenced to 10 Years in Health Insurance Fraud Scandal

During the summer of 2022, Terrence Williams had decided to plead guilty to a dark story of health insurance fraud targeting former NBA players: a scam involving the production of fake medical and dental reimbursements. Considered the instigator of this fraud, he was sentenced to ten years in prison and to repay 2.5 million dollars to the players’ association. Furthermore, he had to pay the State a fine of no less than $650,000.

In addition to the former Nets player, seventeen former NBA players participated in this scam, including Glen Davis and Will Bynum. The former Boston center and former Detroit guard were convicted by a New York jury in recent days, according to ESPN. In total, Glen Davis and the twenty people involved had defrauded more than $5 million. “Today’s conviction shows that, despite fame or success in sport, or in any other field, no one is immune from criminal prosecution,” said prosecutor Damian Williams.
