Former Ole Miss Football Stars Shine in the NFL: A Week 8 Recap

OXFORD, Miss. – Here at OleMissSports.com, we are proud to update Rebel fans on the status of our former players who lace up their cleats on Sundays in the NFL. The Ole Miss football program continues to shine in the professional league with 31 former Rebels on NFL rosters (practice squads included), including star wideouts A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf and Elijah Moore.

This past week, wide receiver A.J. Brown recorded 130 receiving yards, setting a new all-time NFL record with his sixth straight game with more than 125 yards through the air. His 939 receiving yards this year rank second in the league.

Linebacker Sam Williams also came up big this week. In the Cowboys’ 43-20 win over the Rams, Williams blocked a punt out of the back of the end zone for a safety.

Overall, 20 alumni played for Week 8 of competition. Here’s a rundown of how each NFL Rebel performed:

Appeared on 23 snaps for special teams in Week 8.

#64 Nick Broeker | OG | Houston Texans

Did not see any action in Week 8.

#11 A.J. Brown | WR | Philadelphia Eagles

Caught eight passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles in their 38-31 win over the Commanders, setting a new NFL record for consecutive games with at least 125 yards receiving (6).

#21 Zach Evans | RB | Los Angeles Rams

Did not see any action in Week 8.

#17 Evan Engram | TE | Jacksonville Jaguars

Set a season-high in catches and yards with 10 receptions for 88 yards.

#24 AJ Finley | S | Los Angeles Chargers

Played 13 snaps in a win against the Bears.

#21 Mike Hilton | CB | Cincinnati Bengals

Recorded four tackles, including one tackle for loss.

#18 Malik Heath | WR | Green Bay Packers

Did not see any action in Week 8.

#94 Benito Jones | DT | Detroit Lions

Started at defensive tackle in Week 8, playing for 33 snaps.

#97 D.J. Jones | DT | Denver Broncos

Started at nose tackle, playing 29 snaps and recording one tackle in a win over the Chiefs.

#31 Jaylon Jones | CB | Chicago Bears

Competed on 32 snaps for the Bears, recording one tackle.

#33 Deane Leonard | CB | Los Angeles Chargers

Played 26 snaps in Week 8.

#14 D.K. Metcalf | WR | Seattle Seahawks

Recorded five catches for 67 yards in a win over the Browns.

#15 Jonathan Mingo | WR | Carolina Panthers

Hauled in four passes for a career-high 62 yards in a win against the Texans.

#8 Elijah Moore | WR | Cleveland Browns

Caught two passes for 30 yards, adding 23 punt return yards.

#70 Royce Newman | OL | Green Bay Packers

Appeared for three snaps on special teams.

#93 Mark Robinson | LB | Pittsburgh Steelers

Appeared for 18 snaps on special teams in week 8.

#95 Tavius Robinson | OLB | Baltimore Ravens

Saw 35 snaps in the Ravens’ win against the Cardinals, recording two tackles.

#78 Laremy Tunsil | OT | Houston Texans

Started at left tackle for the Texans, playing all 58 snaps.

#54 Sam Williams | DE | Dallas Cowboys

Recorded two tackles and blocked a punt for a safety in a 43-20 win over the Rams.
