France-Gibraltar: the Blues break a first record, with 7 goals scored at half-time

What a slap in the face! While the second half has not yet been played, the Blues have already established a first record by scoring seven goals in the first 45 minutes of this France-Gibraltar in Nice. Ethan Santos (own goal), Marcus Thuram, Warren Zaire-Emery, Kylian Mbappé, Jonathan Clauss, Kingsley Coman and Youssouf Fofana were the scorers. The previous record dated from 1957, when the Blues led 5-0 against Iceland at the break.

The record for a meeting is not very far away. Only three matches have been won by the French team by a larger score: France-Luxembourg in 1953 (8-0), France-Iceland in 1957 (8-0) and France-Azerbaijan in 1995 (10-0) . With 45 minutes still to go, only four more are needed to improve this record.

Already qualified for Euro 2024, which will be played in Germany next summer, the Blues further establish their domination of the qualifying group. Thanks to this impressive score, the French will achieve a seventh victory in seven matches and therefore ensure their top seed status before the draw on December 2 in Hamburg. Didier Deschamps’ men also took care of their statistics with, at this stage of the match, 20 goals scored and only one conceded, against the Netherlands.
