Frankfurt (oz) – The 7th Adler Cup, one of the largest international youth judo tournaments in Europe, took place in Frankfurt at the end of October. Franziska Lomb from the 1st Fulda Judo Club remained undefeated and secured the gold medal. Fabian Hohmann rewarded his strong competitive performance with a bronze medal.
Last weekend the 7th International Eagle Cup took place in the Kalbach sports and leisure center in Frankfurt. With many helpers, TSG Nordwest Frankfurt once again put together an event that is rarely found in Europe. 1,800 athletes aged 7 to 20 from over 30 countries and 260 clubs came to compete. The 1st Fulda Judo Club was also represented by four athletes.
Franziska Lomb (-52kg) delivered a perfect competition on Sunday in the U16 age group. She won the opening fight against Helene Rose (Leipziger Sportlöwen) with an armbar within 24 seconds. After 16 seconds, Sabina Zurawska (1.JC Großkrotzenburg) sent her to the mat with an uchi-mata. The third round continued just as brilliantly against Serbian Mara Rasic (Judo club Tamis), who Lomb was also able to beat with an Uchi-mata after 31 seconds. In the semifinals, Lomb faced Marissa Eckardt (Büdinger Gymnastics Association), who was eliminated from the tournament because of diving (forbidden technique) with Hansoku-make. In the final, Lomb met the Dutch Fee Jansen (Kenamju) and couldn’t miss the gold medal. After just 38 seconds, she defeated Jansen with a waza-ari score for a hip throw (O-goshi) and a subsequent hold in the ground.
Fabian Hohmann (-60kg) in the U16 age group only had to admit defeat to the Dutchman Kirill Pijnenburg (Essink Sports Center) in the opening encounter. In the consolation round that followed, Hohmann fought confidently from encounter to encounter. He won the fight against the Belgian Tyan Emmers (Judo Club Gruitrode) with a sankaku (holding technique) on the ground. He then met the Czech Mihai Chilat (Judo Dragons), whom he defeated after 15 seconds with a remarkable Uchi-mata. He sent Tristan Schiemann (Bushido Vellmar) off the mat after 11 seconds with an O-goshi and the subsequent victory against the Dutchman Milan Barents (Lu Gia Jen Den Haag) using a foot technique meant Hohmann made it into the small final for bronze. Here too, he left no stone unturned and secured the bronze medal after 25 seconds with an uchimata against the Dutchman Ruben Singerling (Origin Judo Academy).
The U21 starters Konstantin Lomb and Lara Schäfer were less lucky that day. Lomb (-73kg) had to admit defeat in his opening fight to the German national team athlete and later tournament winner Paul Friedrichs (UJKC Potsdam). In the subsequent consolation round, after a bye, Lomb met the Algerian Bouacida Abdallah nour elislem (NADI EL IFRIKI STAIFI), whom he forced to submit with a choking technique. He then had a strong exchange of blows with the Russian Adam Shakhgireev, in which he equalized after Waza-ari and only had to admit defeat in the golden score. Lara Schäfer (-63kg) also showed fights at the highest level. She was able to defeat her Czech opening opponent Eliska Zednikova (Judo Dragons) in an exciting duel after almost 7 minutes of fighting time in the golden score before she had to admit defeat to the eventual tournament winner Sophia Matsiridi (Braunschweiger JC). In the consolation round, Schäfer got into a choking technique against Isabelle Schühlein (KSV Esslingen), which unfortunately forced her to give up.
For the Fulda athletes, this tournament at the top international level was great preparation for the national competitions for the U20 in Mannheim and U17 in Herne (m)/Holzwickede (f) on November 11th, for which the club wishes its athletes much success.
