GDP of the housing sector in Mexico falls 1.7%: Inegi – El Sol de México

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the housing sector presented a decrease of 1.7 percent in 2022, after the recovery it had the previous year after the impact of the pandemic, the Inegi reported this Tuesday.

The result contrasted with the 3.8 percent growth of the national economy, in full recovery from the crisis due to Covid-19.

According to the Mexican Housing Satellite Account, the participation of the housing sector in the country’s economy reached an amount of 1.5 trillion current pesos, which meant a contribution of 5.2 percent of the national GDP.

The result meant a drop after housing had a contribution of 5.7 percent to Mexico’s GDP in 2021.

After collapsing 12 percent in 2020 due to the health crisis, the housing sector grew seven percent in 2021, however it suffered a new setback last year.

It is the third time in a decade that housing GDP shows a negative annual result, according to Inegi data.
