Ibizan and Spanish Badminton Shine at Spanish International U-15 and U-17 Championship

Ibizan and Spanish badminton have once again shone with their own light this weekend at the Spanish International U-15 and U-17 in Ibiza, which this Sunday crowned its new champions in the Sa Blanca Dona pavilion after a fast-paced and exciting final day that had national and pitiuso badminton as the main protagonists.

The Ibizan and Spanish midfielders managed to have a presence on all the podiums and won a total of 24 medals, with a balance of 13 medals in the Under-15 category and 11 metals in the Under-17 category.

Likewise, it should be noted that 15 of the 24 medals achieved were achieved in the doubles events (8 in the U-15 and 7 in the U-17, which reaffirms the progress of national badminton in the doubles events.

In the men’s individual event of the U-15 category, the champion was the Portuguese Cesar Rodrigues, who defeated Guillermo Muñiz in the final (21-13 and 21-13). Both got on the podium along with Raúl Hernández and Tristan Petriat.

In women, the winner was the Frenchwoman Paulina Carthery, after defeating Belén Soto, while the bronze medals went to Nuria Serra and Sulimar Cabrera.

In the men’s doubles there was a clear Spanish accent as they completely took over the podium with Raúl Hernández and Félix Sanz as winners, Daniel Espinosa and Adrián Lazo as runners-up and Raúl Molina and Guillermo Muñoz, along with the Portuguese Cesar and Tomas Rodrigues, in third step.

In the women’s doubles the title went to the Portuguese Rafaela Silva and Maribel Sousa, after beating Mariona Ying Muñoz and Nuria Serra in the final. The bronze was awarded to the Germans Pia Rappen and Lilly Reiter.

The national athletes also stood out in the mixed doubles, since the couple formed by Pablo Sanz and Polina Prykhodko won the gold ahead of Raúl Hernández and the Ibizan María García, who took the silver while the bronze went to Eric Domínguez and Nuria Serra with Martín Fenoll and Belén Soto.

Under-17 Category

In the U-17 category there was also a clear dominance of national athletes, with special prominence of Iziar Barcala, double champion (individual and mixed doubles) and bronze medalist in women’s doubles, and Mario Rodríguez, individual gold, silver in doubles men’s and bronze in mixed doubles.

In the U-17 individual Adrián Rodríguez won silver and the bronze medals went to Raúl Bergua and the Frenchman Boris Popov.

In the women’s singles, Barcala won in the final against the main favorite, the German Lisa Paula Bonnemann (23-21 and 21-10), with the bronze going to the Portuguese Maribel Sousa and the French Maeve Delannoy Seillier.

In the men’s doubles, Mario Rodríguez and the Ibizan Álex Tur won the silver, while the bronze went to Raúl Bergua and Gonzalo Isabal along with the Germans Mika Dorschel and Henri Saur.

In the women’s doubles there was bronze with an Ibizan accent, since María and Sofía García shared it with the Galicians Iziar Barcala and Carmen Carro.

The Ibizan player Sofía García once again stood on the podium in mixed doubles with Gonzalo Isabal, with whom she won the silver, after losing to Iziar Barcala and Raúl Bergua.

With the Spanish International U-15 and U-17, this brought to an end ten days in which Ibiza has been the epicenter of national and international badminton, also hosting the Spanish U-17 Championship and the Iberdrola Spanish International.
