James Harden Joins LA Clippers: A New Era for the Franchise

James Harden is expected to help the LA Clippers reach the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history this season. There is optimism within the franchise that the new Big Four can work.

“It’s important that sacrifices are made,” said Coach Ty Lue of the new Big Four of Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Russell Westbrook. “These are four guys from LA and they have all achieved a lot in their careers. They understand that and only talk about wanting to win a championship,” revealed Lue before the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, which took place without Harden was lost after extra time.

“That’s their only goal, that’s what we’re focused on. And that requires sacrifices, whether it’s minutes or shots, and I know they’re ready for that.” Lawrence Frank also emphasized this in his statement and called Harden a player who will significantly increase the Clippers’ potential.

“He wants to be part of something bigger than himself. These four have all earned a lot of awards and a lot of money. It’s all about that one goal.”

Lue also welcomed the timing of the trade: “We’ve only played four games and not 60 like last year when we brought Westbrook. We have a lot of time and probably not everything will always work out. We know that, but we’re looking forward to it the journey that lies ahead of us.”

It could still be a while before Harden makes his debut in a Clippers jersey, while PJ Tucker, who was also traded, was already used against the Lakers. Instead, Harden should be given time to work on his fitness so that he can’t be back on the court until next week at the earliest. The game at the New York Knicks on Tuesday night is being discussed as a possible date.
