Junior Lake sets record at LIDOM

SANTO DOMINGO.- Since his debut in the 2009-2010 season, Junior Lake has earned the respect of players, managers and fans of Dominican baseball, first as a great prospect and then for what he has shown in this ball for more than a decade.

This Tuesday, the native of San Pedro de Macorís became the only player in the history of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (Lidom) with 30 or more home runs and 100 steals in a regular series. Opening the third inning of the game against the Gigantes del Cibao at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium, Lake singled to center field against Johan Domínguez. Already in the first base, when Abraham Almonte had a 1-1 count, he stole second base, thus achieving the feat and his fourth steal of the season.

“Happy with what happened tonight, grateful to God for the opportunity he has given me, to the fans and to my family for their support. It has been a lot of sacrifice because it has been hard work, a path of ups and downs but it was worth it,” said the 33-year-old player after finishing the game.

Despite the satisfaction that the feat generates, Lake has a greater desire for the Leones del Esgido, a team he joined this season after being acquired through free agency. “What I most long for is a championship with the Esído. Let’s hope to God that happens, with that it would be a perfect season for each of us,” he pointed out.

With his performance on Tuesday, Lake has three home runs this season and four stolen bases. In addition to contributing in those boxes and in defense for the Lions, Lake is the team’s co-leader in scoring with 8, second in walks with 5 and one of the first with the most hits.
