Monaco’s Winning Streak Comes to an End in Upset Against SLUC Nancy

Monaco had so far managed to escape the traps set in Betclic Élite. But the French champion’s series of nine victories to start the season ended on Saturday in Nancy during the 10th day.

The SLUC and its cauldron of Gentilly awaited the stars of the principality, coming directly from Milan where they had imposed themselves on their warrior virtues and a decisive shot from Mike James on Thursday in the Euroleague (72-66).

And the Lorraines, frustrated by a defeat in Blois (99-98) on Saturday October 28 due to a refereeing fault recognized by the officials later in the week, confirmed their superb start to the season by leading the entire second half after taking control in the second quarter (49-45 at the break).

The SLUC relied on its energy and on its Jamaican pivot Shevon Thompson, who reigned in both rackets (25 points, 13 rebounds, 11 caused fouls) to achieve a fifth victory at home where it remains impregnable.

In the last minute, the Lorraines contained the final rushes of the Roca Team, the best defense so far of the elite which conceded 94 points and shot 57% on free throws.

With Thompson, US leader Frank Mason (18 points, 8 assists) symbolized Nancy’s takeover, which materialized in the fourth quarter when SLUC went 15-4 in seven and a half minutes.

Despite this setback, Monaco will retain its pole position in the standings at the end of the 10th day, which ends on Sunday. The runner-up to the leader, Paris Basketball, hosts Blois while Asvel defends its fourth place in Limoges. Nancy climbs to fourth place, also tied with Cholet, while awaiting the result of Asvel.
