Outstanding success for Robert Endras from TV Kempten: The 55-year-old surprisingly became judo runner-up world champion in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) at the Over-30 World Championships in the class up to 90 kilos (55 to 59 years old).
1000 participants from 63 countries are taking part in Abu Dhabi
1000 participants from 63 countries took part in the Persian Gulf. Endras had prepared intensively. After administrative hurdles, long waiting times for accreditation and weighing and the bus transfer being canceled, he was happy when it finally started. First, the Allgäu native defeated the Kazakh Dauren Shangereyev in extra time with an outside shot. In round two Endras also defeated in extra time.
In the semi-finals, Endras met India’s Ranbir Solanki, who finished third in the World Cup last year. The Kempten player repeatedly attacked with foot techniques that put the Indian in dangerous situations on several occasions. In what was now the third extra time, the TVK judoka surprised the Indian with his special technique (Soto-maki-komi) and moved into a World Cup final for the first time.
In the final, Robert Endras from Kempten lost to a Belgian
Only in the final did it end against the Belgian Dirk Vandevoort. After a leg technique, Endras fell behind with a small score. In the ensuing ground situation, Endras managed to grab a hold. But the Belgian saved himself 18 seconds from the impending defeat. Back in the standing position, Vandevoort scored another small score using the throwing technique that gave him the title.
Kempten judoka celebrates the greatest success of his career
For Endras it is the greatest success of his career so far. After winning the German championship, European Championship gold (team) and European Championship bronze (individual), it was the end of a particularly successful season. (jda)
