Roland-Garros: the new roof of the Suzanne-Lenglen court revealed for the first time

The Roland-Garros stadium continues to change. After the Philippe-Chatrier court, whose roof was inaugurated during the 2020 French Open, on Saturday October 10, it is the turn of the Suzanne-Lenglen court to be protected.

Carried out as part of the project to extend and modernize the Roland-Garros stadium, the work aims to organize indoor competitions in this venue, particularly on the occasion of the Paris Olympic Games. This Thursday, the first images of the roof were revealed and proved the progress of these developments.

On Suzanne Lenglen “. “A work paying homage to this pioneer of women’s tennis, who embodied French elegance so well,” they continued in the caption of a photo of the second most important court at Roland-Garros.

The architect and town planner Dominique Perrault is in charge of the project. About to be completed, it will allow Roland-Garros organizers to offer matches on a second court in the event of rain. Before 2020, no match could be played in the event of bad weather. The retractable roof of the Philippe-Chatrier court made it possible to regulate this situation for the first time. This second short will further improve the situation.

This development was also carried out with a view to the Paris Olympic Games, since the final boxing phases will be contested in this enclosure. After the first rounds in Villepinte, the boxers will take over the 16th arrondissement stadium once the tennis tournament is over. 10,000 spectators will be able to witness the exploits of Sofiane Oumiha, Estelle Mossely and the rest of the French delegation. Seven tricolors have already qualified.
