Hansa Rostock turned the game in Magdeburg, promoted Wehen Wiesbaden marched. Düsseldorf lost for the second time in a row. The second league is now moving even closer together. Only three points separate second place and ninth place.

Second division football team Fortuna Düsseldorf was unable to take advantage of Hamburger SV’s further away mistake and missed out on a promotion place. On Sunday, coach Daniel Thioune’s team, which was severely weakened by replacements, lost 0-1 (0-0) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth and suffered their second defeat in a row.

After 13 games, a quintet (Düsseldorf, Fürth, Nuremberg and the promoted teams Elversberg and Wehen Wiesbaden) is three points behind the direct promotion ranks. Second-placed HSV (24) lost 2:4 to new third-placed Holstein Kiel (23) on Saturday. Second and ninth place are separated by just three points.

1. FC Magdeburg, which started the season strongly, has finally found itself in the relegation battle after a bitter defeat with a late own goal in the East duel. Despite taking an early lead, coach Christian Titz’s team missed out on their longed-for first victory in the championship in over two months on Sunday. Instead, the FCM conceded a 1:2 (1:0) against FC Hansa Rostock at home in front of 26,660 spectators.

Herbert Bockhorn (4th) had put Magdeburg in the lead, Dennis Dressel (46th) and Connor Krempicki’s own goal (86th) turned the game around. Magdeburg is in 14th place with 13 points – only ahead of relegation thanks to the better goal difference.

Titz only replaced the suspended Daniel Elfadli with team captain Amara Condé, but otherwise remained with the starting eleven from the cup games in Kiel and at HSV. Defending better and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise were the goals that the coach set.

And his team initially delivered on the second aspect: Jason Ceka played Bockhorn free in the penalty area and he lobbed the ball over Markus Kolke to take the lead – it was the FCM’s second goal. Despite Magdeburg’s early lead, the expected game developed with the guests waiting and an active host looking for possession of the ball. Magdeburg worked a lot to create chances, but rarely had shots on goal – Ceka’s ball from distance was saved by Kolke (19th).

After thirty minutes, Hansa became more active and the FCM immediately demonstrated why Titz had also made the defense responsible – because the hosts could not break free from their grip because the second balls consistently landed at Rostock. Hansa had the better chances until the break, Junior Brumado (42nd) missed the best from a tight angle.

The second half began with a low blow for the FCM: After a whole series of duels that were not consistently carried out by the FCM, Dressel (46th) took a shot from a distance and the ball slipped into the goal under Dominik Reimann to equalize. The FCM then continued to struggle to reach conclusions. Whether on the flanks or through the center: Hansa was the better team in the duels, defended to the limit of what was allowed – and even accepted a foul when in doubt. However, Hansa was now almost exclusively occupied with defense, Magdeburg hardly allowed a breather.

Hansa’s insurance was once again Kolke: The goalkeeper saved against Luca Schuler (70th), Silas Gnaka (72nd) and Bockhorn (73rd). Magdeburg took the game and had the clearer chances to score – but Hansa scored: After a corner, the ball bounced off Connor Krempicki’s back and bounced from there into the goal for the final score.

Fürth’s sieve misses from 40 meters

Fortuna Düsseldorf felt the home strength of SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The Franconians deservedly won 1-0 (0-0) in the Ronhof after midfielder Robert Wagner’s first goal of the season (48th minute) and drew level with Fortuna in the table with 21 points.

In front of 10,790 spectators, the Fürth team earned their fifth success in their seventh home game of the season with slightly greater attacking power and determination. After a mistake by Fortuna goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier, who ran far out of his goal but missed the ball, Armindo Sieb could have scored for the hosts shortly before half-time. However, the attacker missed the empty goal with his shot from 40 meters.

Wagner, on loan from SC Freiburg, completed a nice attacking move based on an assist from Tim Lemperle. Only after a lengthy offside check was the goal finally recognized. Fortuna then fought in vain for an equalizer against passionately defending Fürth until the long and hectic stoppage time.

Wiesbaden is marching

SV Wehen Wiesbaden remained on the road to success with the 2:1 (1:1) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. With the fourth win in a row, the newcomer from Hesse climbed to seventh place in the table and is getting closer and closer to the promotion places. In the southwest derby, Thijmen Goppel (51st minute) and Ivan Prtajin (65th) scored the goals for the hosts in front of 12,100 spectators in the sold-out Brita Arena. The Palatinate team initially took the lead through Marlon Ritter (39th).

In a largely uneventful first half, a shot from Wiesbaden’s Amar Catic (6th) from a tight angle, which was saved by FCK goalkeeper Julian Krahl, was the only chance for a long time. Even after that, SV Wehen remained the more active team, but had to accept the lead from Ritter out of nowhere in the final phase of the first half. Shortly before the break, Prtajin missed the chance to equalize from close range (44th).

After a goal from Terrence Boyd was disallowed at the start of the second half due to an offside position (49th), Goppel made it 1-1 a short time later with a long-range shot that Nikola Soldo deflected. Prtajin turned the game in Wiesbaden’s favor when he deflected a free kick from Robin Heußer into the goal with his chest.
