“Shame of putting our supporters behind the posts”: Dax’s anger after his victory in Biarritz

It was a controversial match, tinged with a rivalry between leaders, which took place this Friday evening in the Basque Country. Invited to come to the Biarritz Olympique pitch for the tenth day of Top 14, US Dax, ultimately winner of the match with the gong (21-22), denounced the reception conditions for its supporters .

“I am very proud of all the guys who helped to prepare as best as possible for this meeting, which was played in terrible conditions, on a terrible pitch,” declared Maxime Delonca, US Dax hooker. (…) We are a group of friends who swore to come and win here, because there were lots of actions from the presidency, from the authorities, which really displeased us. »

“This victory is essentially for them (the supporters), he continued. When I see our supporters who for the most part are under the fleet, at 60 years old, behind the posts… I find it lamentable, it’s a scandal. It’s really pathetic of a president like (that of Biarritz, Jean-Baptiste) Aldigé to put our supporters behind the posts.”

In the hours preceding the match, tension rose a notch between the two clubs who responded through press releases posted on social networks. Benjamin Gufflet personally signed that of US Dax and first indicated “regret the attitude of Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque towards the Dacquois supporters making the trip”.

Dax announced that it had contacted the LNR

And specified: “Under the Charter of Ethics and Conviviality put in place by the LNR, each Pro D2 club has the obligation to make 100 places available to the visiting club with a very precise distribution according to article 1.2: 4 places in the official stand, 10 places in the central stand, 86 places in the stadium including at least 36 seated places. To date and despite several reminders from the US Dax, the BO has decided to send 10 central places, 10 side places and 100 weighing places which in no way correspond to the rules defined in the charter. »

The head of the Landes club, former manager of… Biarritz, added that he had contacted the LNR for a “failure to respect this charter but above all for a lack of values, state of mind and sharing that our sport, rugby”. The BO in turn continued: “The BOPB club respects that of Dax. (…) Biarritz Olympique has sent 120 places to US Dax and is receiving representatives from the Dax town hall in the official forum. »

Above all, the club directly targeted Benjamin Gufflet, ensuring that he was “associated with the darkest hours in the history” of the BO, led for several years by Jean-Baptiste Aldigé. As a result of this standoff, the elected officials of the Dax town hall finally refused to make the trip, “out of solidarity with the Dacquois supporters and the management team”, reports South West.

On the field, the match ended with a narrow victory for Dacquois 21 to 22 thanks to a try scored after the end of regulation time.
