Success in Badminton: Soria-CS24 and AD89 Players Shine in Territorial Competition

They demonstrated the level of the players from the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club and the AD89 in a test that had great participation from clubs from Castilla y León, Galicia, the Basque Country, Extremadura, Madrid, Murcia and the Canary Islands.

It was the players who stood out the most in the senior category, highlighting the triumph of Esther Pereira in the mixed doubles together with Raúl Gutiérrez, from the Burgos Badminton Club. In the semifinals, both got rid of the Soria couple formed by Beatriz Ortega and Beatriz Hernández, who had almost completely recovered from the injury that kept her out for a few months.

Along with Esther’s performance, there is the competition completed by Nora Martínez, who won two silver medals, in the women’s singles and doubles modalities. Fulfilling the predictions that placed her as seeded in both draws, she was unable to materialize both finals despite standing up in both matches. Within the women’s doubles, there was also a Soriano duel in the semifinals since Nora, together with Vanessa García from Palencia, defeated Esther Pereira and Jennifer Fernández, also from Palencia.

The rest of the metals came from the senior group, with three victories, two silver medals and two other bronze medals.

Santiago Martínez had to do his best to win gold in the individual events of his category. The final match, against the Swedish player from the Palencia Badminton Club Martjin Ljngberg, lasted 47 minutes with great physical exhaustion. In the same frame, José Romero from Burgos won the bronze medal.

Santiago, along with his teammate Manuel Acero, won the runner-up position in the
male double.

The mixed doubles modality had a double presence from Soria on the podium. The greater cohesion of Sergio Latorre and Cristina Puebla led them to beat Manuel Acero and Cristina Irigoien from Alava, who will begin to compete regularly.

Cristina Puebla also scored a double at the top of the podium in the individual category.

The last medal was obtained by José Carlos Pérez in his individual category, which consolidates him in fourth position in his respective national ranking.

The seniors will face another territorial competition next week to end the season in fifteen days at the National Master in Toledo.
