Texas Football Achieves Historic Top-10 Ranking in College Football Playoff

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Football debuted at No. 7 in the first 2023 College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night. It marks the first top-10 appearance in program history for the Longhorns, besting the previous high of No. 14 in 2018. Texas also check in at No. 7 in the Associated Press and is ranked sixth in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Longhorns (7-1, 4-1) defeated BYU on Saturday, 35-6, and are off to the program’s best start since 2009. Texas is one of eight FBS schools and six Power 5 programs scoring at least 34 points (34.5) and allowing 16 or fewer points (16.0) per game. UT has scored 30 points in each of the first eight games for the first time in program history and is one of only four schools to accomplish the feat this season, along with Florida State, Michigan and Oregon.

The Longhorns will host No. 23/25/RV Kansas State (6-2, 4-1) on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and the game will broadcast live on FOX.
