The DFB team under Nagelsmann: Does the national coach want too much? – Sports

“We were sitting upstairs and were excited,” said Bernd Neuendorf after the game, “then it became inexplicable.” Many observers probably felt like the President of the German Football Association (DFB) after the national team’s 2-3 defeat against Turkey. In his search for answers, national coach Julian Nagelsmann found that his players lacked emotionality. However, some people may have asked themselves whether the reason for the defeat was the new tactical complication. Nagelsmann had announced a game idea that should be less complex than in club football.

Did the 36-year-old give up on this resolution after three games? Is it perhaps even right to challenge the players tactically? Or shouldn’t Nagelsmann focus on simplicity and say goodbye to the international year with a win against Austria on Tuesday? Moderator Anna Dreher discusses these and more questions in the new episode of “And Now to Sport” with Martin Schneider, deputy sports department head, and Philipp Selldorf, national team reporter for the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
