The Dynamic Duo: Max Verstappen and Engineer Gianpiero Lambiase Thrive in Formula 1 Collaboration

Max Verstappen is having a very strong season in Formula 1. He certainly owes his victory to his employer Red Bull Racing. Verstappen is in contact with his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase during the sessions, the latter does not want to collaborate with any other driver.

Verstappen and Lambiase are two hands on one stomach. During the sessions, the two sometimes have quite heated discussions over the on-board radio. They often contradict each other and sometimes it even seems like they are arguing. However, both parties see this differently and Verstappen has previously spoken very highly of Lambiase. The race engineer himself is also very pleased with the collaboration.

Counteract

In conversation with De Telegraaf, Lambiase looks at his collaboration with Verstappen. According to him, honesty is extremely important, so he believes it is important to push back: “I don’t think Max wants it any other way. He is not someone who lets you walk all over him. He is clear, to the point “That’s how he was raised, his father trained him wonderfully. I take over that task a little bit on the track, through my responsibilities as an engineer. That dynamic seems to work well. I’m not an expert in sports psychology at all, but you have to sense the character of a driver to achieve the optimal.”

Fuses

Lambiase finds it extremely important that he and Verstappen can understand each other blindly. Verstappen previously shouted that he will stop if Lambiase stops. The latter can laugh about that: “I can see through that. First of all, no one is irreplaceable. Secondly: there is no way that if I finish that race tomorrow, his career will be over. It’s nice that he says this, it shows how well we get along with each other. The day that Max and I no longer work together in this setup will be the day that I would like to take on a different challenge. I don’t think it is fair to another driver if we try to emulate what I did with Max.”

Are you confident that Max Verstappen will set the fastest lap this weekend? Bet and win!
