The Gaillards swept the double honors against Cégep Marie-Victorin, in men’s basketball.
COLLEGE – The Astrelles and Gaillards from Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue gave their rivals from Cégep Marie-Victorin a hard time. While passing through the region, the Trappers were overwhelmed by the Abitibians, both at the female and male level.
The dominant start to the season continued last weekend for the Astrelles. At the top of the South-West Conference of the 2nd collegiate division before facing the Trappeurs, they remained perfect thanks to bitter wins of 95 to 43 and 71 to 48. The only team with a perfect record after four games, the Abitibiennes have triumphed by an average margin of 31 points, until now.
The same story applies to their Gaillards teammates, who are now alone in second place in the rankings, thanks to a 101 to 79 and 84 to 52 sweep against Marie-Victorin.
In the middle of Astrelles & Gaillards Movement Week, the Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue was also in action in several other disciplines. Among these, badminton and women’s indoor soccer began the 2023 fall season abroad, respectively at Collège Lionel-Groulx and the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex.
Both groups came home with a .500 record. Abitibi-Témiscamingue had the upper hand in badminton against the Lionel-Groulx colleges (96-39) and Édouard-Montpetit (80-63), but had to admit defeat against the Marianopolis college (88-63) and the Collège du Bois-de-Boulogne (66-63).
Dominant against the Cégep de Terrebonne (8-0), the Astrelles were subsequently defeated 2-0 against the Noir et Or du Cégep de Valleyfield in soccer.
Ultimately, the Abitibians came back empty-handed in men’s hockey (two losses) and women’s volleyball (three losses).
