The Unexpected Journey of Tyrone Tormin: From AS Saint-Étienne to Niort

It was a surprise departure from Forez during the summer of 2021. At the very end of the transfer window and while he had participated in several preparation matches, showing himself to be rather interesting, Tyrone Tormin had packed his bags for Niort.

Trained at AS Saint-Étienne, Tyrone Tormin is part of the “gambardella generation” who lifted the trophy so coveted by young people in 2019. During the 2020-2021 season, Tyrone Tormin had made three appearances with the AS Saint-Étienne pennant team then coached by Claude Puel. However, the promising young striker was not retained following this season and left in the very last hours of the summer transfer window which followed, which surprised many.

Left for Niort with the ambition of winning in Ligue 2, Tyrone Tormin has had a complicated last two seasons with twelve appearances in the first for just one assist and only four games played in the second. The Chamois Niortais were also relegated at the end of this one. Now in National 1, Tyrone Tormin had not changed status at the start of the season and was only very rarely in the Niort group until recent weeks. After a goal scored in the Coupe de France, Tyrone Tormin took his chance by doing it again in the league last week against Goal FC, scoring a goal just six minutes after coming on. Starting last night against Sochaux, he scored the fourth goal of Niort’s victory with a subtle small dive (4-2).

Two goals in four appearances this season in National 1 for the former Stéphanois who is returning to form and who could well settle into this Niort team, currently second in the championship, second place synonymous with a return to Ligue 2 at the end of the season.
