The defeat to Newcastle United is considered to have exposed Arsenal’s shortcomings, despite the controversy. There are two positions where Arsenal’s chances of winning are doubtful.
Arsenal lost 0-1 when they visited Newcastle’s headquarters at St James’ Park in the Premier League, Saturday (4/11/2023) evening WIB, yesterday. Anthony Gordon’s goal, which was marred by controversy regarding whether it was legal or not, was the difference between the two teams.
This defeat halted Arsenal’s progress, which is trying to stay close to the top of the standings. Now the ‘London Cannon’ is in third position, three points behind Manchester City, potentially being left further behind by Tottenham Hotspur and also being overtaken by Liverpool.
In terms of performance, Arsenal implied two shortcomings when they lost to Newcastle. Mikel Arteta’s troops had difficulty creating a threat to the goal and the goalkeeper’s error led to the opponent’s goal.
For the record, Arsenal, who dominated possession of the ball, only fired one shot on target throughout the match. It came from Gabriel Martinelli’s stab, which was relatively easy for goalkeeper Nick Pope to secure.

“It wasn’t a mistake to replace Aaron Ramsdale, because Ramsdale wasn’t going to win the league. But the man chosen to replace him was a complete mess.”
“I think bringing in Declan Rice has improved them, but they haven’t changed much with the goalkeeper position. They don’t look fluid in their game and this isn’t just because of the players they’ve brought in.”
“The players who performed extraordinary last season are also not brilliant enough this season,” he added, quoted by Sky Sports.
