With the last day of the group stage remaining, everything is yet to be decided in the ATP Finals. Including, luckily for Spanish interests, Carlos Alcaraz’s survival in the tournament. After continuing his recent bad feelings in the first match, against Alexander Zverev (6-7 [3], 6-3, 6-4), the Murcian was able to resurface this Wednesday in the second, against an Andrey Rublev, a victim of the most absolute desperation (7-5, 6-2). The Russian and Hubert Hurkacz, substitute for the injured Stefanos Tsitsipas, are the only ones without options to qualify for the semifinals: the rest of the tennis players in the competition can still access the crosses.

The situation will begin to become clearer this Thursday, when the green group of the Masters Cup will be closed. The uncertainty is total before a day in which Novak Djokovic will face Hurkacz no earlier than 2:30 p.m., with the duel between Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m. On Friday, it will be the turn of the red group, with Alcaraz facing Daniil Medvedev and Zverev facing off against Rublev. These are the possibilities that can occur.

The world number one and current champion in Turin has a 1-1 balance: he beat Rune in the debut (7-6 [4]6-7 [1]6-3), but Sinner defeated him later (7-5, 6-7 [5]7-6 [2]). He will qualify if Sinner defeats Rune, if he beats Hurkacz 2-0 and Rune also beats Sinner 2-0 or if he beats Hurkacz 2-0, Rune beats Sinner 2-1 and the percentage of games de Nole is not the worst of the three that can be classified.

The world number two, who has made his debut in this event, is 1-1 and will qualify if he beats Medvedev or if he loses and Zverev also stumbles against Rublev.

The world number three finished with Rublev (6-4, 6-2) and Zverev (7-6 [7]6-4), so he is 2-0 and, in his case, he is already qualified.

The double 6-4 that he endorsed Tsitsipas and the epic victory over Djokovic leave the number four with a 2-0 in the box. If he beats Rune, he will be in the semi-finals. Also if Hurkacz takes at least one set from Nole or if Djokovic wins 2-0 and the Italian loses 2-1 against Rune, as long as Sinner’s game percentage is not the worst among the three.

He beat Alcaraz and couldn’t beat Medvedev, so the number seven trails 1-1. Having lost 2-0 against Medvedev, he will qualify by defeating Rublev, but only if Alcaraz does not beat Daniil.

He lost to Djokovic and the confrontation with Tsitsipas was a no-brainer due to the Greek’s withdrawal (2-1), so he has a 1-1. He will be among the best four if he wins 2-0 against Sinner, wins 2-1 against Sinner and Hurkacz takes a set against Djokovic or if, in the event that he does not have the worst percentage of games of the three, Djokovic wins 2- 0 to Hurkacz and he 2-1 to Sinner.
