Football professionals who wish the Palestinians “victory” and share anti-Israel slogans: The bitter debate about the Middle East war is affecting football – the clubs are overwhelmed. Why?

Football professionals presume to bring about a solution to the Middle East conflict – Nobel Prize winners have already tried and failed.” This is what Alon Meyer, the President of the Makkabi Germany Sports Association, tells the FAS. It is questionable whether the players are really working on a solution – and yet he is right. For weeks, since the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7th, Meyer has been even more vocal in his criticism of what football players make public on their channels.

Noussair Mazraoui, the Moroccan in the service of FC Bayern Munich, shared a video on Instagram in which a voice says a prayer: “God, help our oppressed brothers in Palestine so that they can achieve victory.” Anwar El Ghazi, Professional from Mainz 05, published there “I stand with Palestine” in connection with the slogan: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.
