Yurij Rodionov’s 2023 Tennis Ranking Prospects Dashed After Loss in Challenger Event

Yurij Rodionov will not end 2023 in the top 100 of the world tennis rankings.

That is a certainty after the 24-year-old left-hander’s first-round defeat at the ATP Challenger Event in Yokkaichi. On Tuesday morning, Rodionov lost to local hero Rei Sakamoto (JPN/1183) 4:6, 4:6 after just 1:14 playing time. For Rodionov it was his third appearance at a Challenger event in Japan in as many weeks.

In the three tournaments in East Asia at the end of the season, however, the targeted entry into the top 100 and the associated fixed ticket for the Australian Open were not achieved, but only two match wins. This means that Rodionov will not be spared qualification for the first GS tournament of the year.
