Curious TV situation on ARD.
After the DFB Cup round of 16 between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and 1. FC Nürnberg, ARD reporter Lea Wagner caused astonishment.
When she interviewed Kaiserslautern managing director Thomas Hengen after his team’s 2-0 win on the debut of new coach Dimitrios Grammozis, she broke it off after just one question.
Wagner: “Thomas Hengen is with me. Congratulations on reaching the quarterfinals. How big is the relief after the turbulent past few days?”

Hengen replies: “Very. I’m really happy for the team that finally rewarded themselves, put up a huge fight today and then kept a clean sheet. That was a great collective performance.”

But instead of another question, Lea Wagner moderated the conversation. It’s probably one of the shortest interviews in TV history. But why this one-question interview?
The round of 16 game between Kaiserslautern and Nuremberg started at 6 p.m., meaning the end of the game was only a few minutes before the start of the ARD Tagesschau at 8 p.m.

Wagner said goodbye as follows: “And we are broadcasting from Betzenberg directly to the Tagesschau. The long cup evening in the first started well and is now continuing with Gladbach against Wolfsburg. That’s after the daily news. And we wish you a nice evening. Bye.”
Not only did Wagner surprise the audience with this quick change of moderation, the person he was talking to also looked surprised into the camera.
