VEENENDAAL The badminton players from BC ‘t Veen played on Saturday in Sporthal de Vallei against the number 1 of the competition: BAN, from Amersfoort. In the away match, the team of trainer/coach Wim van de Craats narrowly lost 5-3, but at home the Veenendalers wanted to perform stunts. It didn’t get that far. The visitors clearly turned out to be a size too big: 2-6.

In the women’s doubles it was decided quickly (13-21, 9-21). Dinja van Haastert and Jamie van Brienen did not bring enough energy. “The ladies in the fourth division are all very strong, more experience is needed to make it difficult for them,” said the coach.

When the women’s doubles ended, the men’s doubles was still undecided. After trailing 0-1 (18-21), Leon Wegen and Wouter Fondse improved their game and deservedly won the second set (21-19). However, a second set win was too much for the well-performing duo (12-21) and so the doubles ended with a 0-2 deficit.

HOPE BACK

The singles brought hope back to the home team. Both Wouter Fondse (21-10, 21-17) and Leon Wegen (21-18, 21-11) easily defeated their opponent in the singles. For the ladies, Jamie van Brienen had to compete against the strongest lady in the competition. She lost without a chance (7-21, 5-21). Dinja van Haastert played strongly.

“The training is paying off,” Van de Craats praised. However, this was not enough to win, because Van Haastert also failed to meet her opponent. After a good first set, the BAN player managed to play a stronger game and Van Haastert ultimately lost in two sets. (14-21, 7-21).

DIFFERENT LEVEL

The Veenendalers sometimes perform well in the mixed competitions, but BAN was clearly at a different level. Fondse/Van Brienen still had a chance to win in the first set (22-24), but after an unfortunate loss, the matter was settled (13-21). The second mix was also lost in two sets (10-21, 14-21), resulting in a 2-6 defeat.

The matches in which there is a chance of more points are now coming up for ‘t Veen. It will be necessary to perform well if BC ‘t Veen’s flagship wants to remain in the fourth division. Van de Craats firmly believes in this, so we can work towards the coming matches with some confidence.
