Club Brugge was no longer defeated by Bodø/Glimt in its last group match in the Conference League. Blauw-zwart won easily 3-1 and thus secured the group win and the corresponding direct ticket for the 1/8th finals.

Club Brugge – Bodø/Glimt in a nutshell:

Man of the match: Not the man with the goals today, but the one with the ideas. Hans Vanaken turned the Jan Breydel Stadium into his playground tonight and led his team to victory. The key figure of the home team also had two grateful flanks in front of him with Nusa and Skov Olsen.

Key moment: Action, reaction. Club Brugge were in charge against Bodø/Glimt, but were suddenly awarded a penalty on the hour mark. Yet there was no panic among the home team. On the contrary. Barely a minute later, Thiago corrected the situation.

State of affairs: The European wintering is a fact for Club Brugge. Our compatriots end the group stage with the leading position in their group and thus advance to the 1/8th finals of the Conference League.

The assignment for Club Brugge was simple tonight: not lose against Bodø/Glimt and be group winners in the Conference League.

To get that job done, Ronny Deila didn’t want to leave anything to chance. It was already a few weeks ago, but top players Antonio Nusa and Andreas Skov Olsen were allowed to start in the Club’s starting line-up with the two of them again.

Immediately successful: Nusa taught his compatriots a lesson in dribbling skills after 25 minutes and shot the ball high into the roof of the goal: 1-0. A satisfying goal for the dribbling-skilled winger, who had been dry since September 20.

Together with the busy Skov Olsen and playmaker Hans Vanaken – who seemed to flourish with two flashy flanks next to him – Club remained in control of Bodø/Glimt.

But Brugge’s intoxicating possession was punctured on the hour mark by an unnecessary penalty foul by Brandon Mechele. The visitors were suddenly level from the spot.

But Club did not take on the role of victim. On the contrary. It went straight to the other side with a clever combination, where De Cuyper, who had pushed through, gave his striker Thiago the 2-1 lead – less than a minute after the equalizer.

In the end, Club had to survive a final offensive from the visitors, but a late header goal by Mechele dashed all Norwegian hopes. Club Brugge thus secured a group win and continues the good trend of the last few weeks.

View Club Brugge’s reactions:

Simon Mignolet: “It was a perfect evening for us. Or almost. A clean sheet would have been even better, of course. But we achieved our goal – group win – and our performance was also good tonight. Especially the first half, the In the second half we had to endure a little more pressure. We conceded another goal after a dubious phase, but all in all it was an easy evening for us. We did well in Europe and now have to continue that trend in the competition, where three difficult matches await us.”

Hugo Vetlesen: “It’s always nice to win against your old teammates. And then take first place. This evening couldn’t have gone better. After a slow start, we gained control of the match and took the deserved victory. I’m happy to be part of this team. I don’t have any goals or assists in Europe yet, but I’m not worried about it. I have a slightly different role in this team and we have plenty of players who can the numbers matter. Now we have to maintain this good feeling that we have had in recent matches. Let’s see what we can still do in Europe.

Hans Vanaken: “Things are going well in Europe and we handled this match excellently. The organization was good and we made good use of the space – that’s how we scored the 1-0 – and immediately reacted well after the equalizer. After that we have to We have to play better, but otherwise it was a good performance from us. With the group win as a bonus. We now have to wait and see many factors, but we want to get as far as possible in this competition. And this weekend there is also an important appointment against Ghent on the programme. If we want to get back to the top, we have to win the matches against our direct opponents.

Phase by phase

4 – extra time

An extra 4 minutes will be added.

Goal Mechele: 3-1

Job done for Club Brugge. Mechele excellently nods in a perfectly taken corner kick from Skoras. The victory and the group win are for the home team.

Perfect parade by Simon Mignolet. The Club Brugge goalkeeper is not surprised by a treacherous free kick and pushes the bouncing ball outside. A warning for the home team, who are getting less and less of the ball.

Just shivering and shaking in front of the Club cage. Simon Mignolet unorthodoxly punches a ball away, right against his defender Mechele. The leather bounces back towards the goal, but everyone on the home team is alert.

The many substitutions took the pace out of the match. The substitutes have to do some searching to get into the match. Resulting in an accumulation of carelessness.

Applauswissel Thiago

Thiago scored his goal again tonight. The Club Brugge striker continues to grow visibly and also seems to be reviving mentally. With a big hug he thanks his coach for the trust when he is substituted. Jutgla may appear in his place. Odoi will also replace De Cuyper.
