Cold and exercise: “These are the symptoms that make me say – definitely don’t exercise!”

The doctor’s offices and beds at home are full, the wave of colds is on the rise. Cough, runny nose, sore throat, sometimes even body aches – hardly anyone doesn’t get it in the cold season. Anyone who exercises regularly often asks themselves: What else can I do, if anything? And is it low risk to get back in? Anyone who approaches the matter the wrong way, who puts passion for sports, ambition and ego above well-being, risks their health – even leading to myocarditis. “And that’s not something to be trifled with,” as Prof. Dr. Martin Halle, specialist in internal medicine, cardiologist and sports medicine, explained in detail in an interview.

Halle is a luminary in his field; as medical director, he heads preventive sports medicine and sports cardiology at the Rechts der Isar University Hospital at the Technical University of Munich. He is one of the leading scientists in his field of research – the prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular and cancer diseases. In the interview he also shows which behavior causes infections more often and what the difference is between myocarditis caused by a runny nose, cough, hoarseness on the one hand and corona on the other.

WELT: Mr. Halle, is the most treacherous enemy of health perhaps a mild cold because people tend to underestimate it?
