As Badminton Netherlands we stand for an inclusive sport where there is no room for exclusion on any grounds. Everyone is welcome at our more than 420 associations, regardless of skin color, cultural background, race, religion, gender, sexual preference, age, physical/mental capabilities or disability.
An inclusive association, what is that?
Inclusion within associations is crucial for creating a healthy, positive and stimulating environment. Sport is not just a physical activity; it also has the power to connect communities, promote self-confidence and develop social skills. As an inclusive association, you welcome people of diverse ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds, cultures, skill levels and physical capabilities, etc. This creates an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their differences.
An inclusive association sounds great, but there are undoubtedly challenges that your association also faces. For example, does your association manage to make everyone feel at home and part of your association? How does your association make it possible to enjoy enjoyable sports for people with financial challenges or how do you deal with gender diversity? On the website Weeswelkomindesport.nl you can do an inclusion check and see where your association stands when it comes to inclusion.
FATHERS
To help associations take the first steps and work towards a more inclusive sport, Badminton Netherlands has started Onze Club Is Van Alles (OCIVI) from November 2023. Within this project, Badminton Netherlands, together with nine other sports associations, will work on process guidance and concrete support is available for associations in the field of diversity and inclusion. This way, within your association, you will become even more aware of the barriers that people (may) experience and guidelines on how you can ensure that your association truly becomes and remains a place for everyone.
Training program
Through OCIVI, NOC*NSF, together with Badminton Netherlands, helps your association learn to deal with diversity and inclusion. The training program is aimed at deploying the right interventions based on the needs and wishes of the club itself, aimed at combating exclusion (becoming more inclusive), combating racism and combating discrimination. As an association you go through a number of steps based on a specific need and the current situation. Every association starts with an intake by a process supervisor who will help your association. There are various support options that suit your situation. Associations can participate in this program free of charge. Sign up for an intake by sending an email to [email protected] or contact your local club support person.
