These days we do it on Sporza with the voices of Ruben Van Gucht and Paul Herygers, but it turns out that José De Cauwer enjoys a lot of popularity in the professional jargon of a commentator.
Many cycling fans heard the unfortunate news this week that De Cauwer might stop as co-commentator after 2024. “My contract with Sporza runs until the end of 2024, then we’ll see. For me it is no longer necessary, I have time for other things,” he wrote to the Krant van West-Vlaanderen.
We therefore asked our WielerNieuws readers if they would find this a shame. And the results were obvious. Out of more than 3,200 (!) votes, no less than 81 percent would be disappointed if De Cauwer actually put down the microphone. So let us all – or at least those 81 percent – hope that he adds a few more years!
