A new investigation opened in Nantes, two days after the death of a Nantes supporter on the sidelines of the Ligue 1 match between FC Nantes and OGC Nice. This Monday, during a press conference, the public prosecutor of Nantes Renaud Gaudeul returned to the facts and indicated the opening of an investigation against the supporters of the local club.
“I requested the opening of an investigation into acts of aggravated intentional violence likely to have been committed by Nantes supporters against this convoy of vehicles transporting OGC Nice supporters,” said he indicated during a press conference organized this Monday and relayed by our colleagues from West France.
The VTC driver prosecuted had already been sentenced to prison
“It will be up to the investigation to establish the circumstances in which this convoy was attacked (ambush or not), knowing that the number of Nantes supporters was significant, a figure which varies enormously depending on the testimonies,” said continued Renaud Gaudeul. With regard to violence, three aggravating circumstances may be retained: in a meeting, with a weapon and with an ambush, as well as aggravated destruction (of vehicles).
For the moment, the way in which the Nice supporters were identified as such remains unknown. The VTC driver prosecuted for intentional homicide admitted while in police custody that he had hit the victim with a knife, in self-defense, according to him, with a weapon belonging to another Nantes supporter present on the scene.
This same VTC driver indicted this Monday already had four entries in his criminal record, including a prison sentence for drug trafficking. He was indicted and his placement in pre-trial detention was requested this Monday.
