Matteo Gabbia, an Italian defender on loan from Milan to the La Liga team, was forced off the pitch on a stretcher with his head immobilised. The 24-year-old central defender was knocked unconscious after receiving a knee to the head inadvertently given to him by teammate Raul Albiol during a play. Gabbia was then resuscitated and carried on a stretcher off the pitch.
He subsequently recovered, returned and finished the match regularly.
