National national team men’s doubles head coach PBSI Cipayung Aryono Miranat explained the current condition of his foster children ahead BWF World Tour Finals which will take place December 13-17 in Hangzhou, China.

Aryono stated that he was preparing two pairs of Indonesian doubles who would compete in the year-ending championship, namely Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana.

The coach nicknamed ‘Water Dragon’ explained that one of the Red and White mainstay players was still experiencing physical problems.

“For Fajar, his waist still hurts, so now he’s still in therapy. There are still three to four days left of final preparations. After that, we’ll fix his shortcomings, who knows, maybe he’ll be even more confident,” explained Aryono, quoted from Antara.

The problems experienced by Fajar affected the performance of the couple who had occupied the number one position in the world. In several championships, it was acknowledged that Fajar’s injury resulted in his performance not being optimal.

Fajar’s hip injury recurred during his round of 16 at the 2023 China Masters in November. This caused him and Rian to lose to host representatives Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi 11-21, 16-21.

Aryono hopes that the remaining days of preparation for the BWF World Tour Finals can go well so that the athletes can achieve optimal results.

“We hope for good results. Hopefully we can be more unified and the results will be better,” said Aryono.

Fajar/Rian is ranked second out of eight world men’s doubles pairs who have qualified for the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals. Throughout this year, Fajar/Rian won two BWF Super 1000 Tournament titles, namely the Malaysia Open 2023 and All England 2023.

They were also runners up in the 2023 BWF Super 500 Korea Open Tournament, then became semifinalists in three BWF Super 750 Tournaments, namely the Denmark Open, Japan Open and India Open 2023.

Meanwhile, Fikri/Bagas, who have never won a title this year, finished as runners up four times, at the Denmark Open, French Open, Thailand Open and Orleans Masters. Apart from that, the world number 12 pair became semifinalists at the Thailand Masters.

Apart from Fajar/Rian and Fikri/Bagas, the Indonesian athletes competing in the BWF World Tour Finals are Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
