First Division Interclubs of the Argentine Tennis Association Begins

This Friday the First Division Interclubs of the Argentine Tennis Association will officially begin, with the dispute of the Base Round (or group stage), with the traditional local and away format. The first two from each zone, both in women and men, will advance to the quarterfinals, which will take place from Tuesday the 5th to Sunday the 10th at Mayling Club de Campo.

The last classified teams -Ferrocarril Gral. San Martín and Almirante Brown in women; Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Under 18 champion, in men’s – had time until this Wednesday to make their lists, and through this medium we announce the protagonists of the tournament that puts the finishing touch on the tennis season in our country.

In the good faith lists there are current figures who are part of the Argentine Tennis Team, young people who represent the future of national tennis and, also, glories of the past who wear the shirts of the clubs that saw them grow and develop. , or that they were given a space during their professional career.

Just to mention a few cases, we will start with San Lorenzo and Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, the defending champions in women’s and men’s, respectively. The Boedo club presented on its list the brand new world top 200, Solana Sierra, and Guillermina Naya, another player from the national team led by Mercedes Paz.

Meanwhile, BALTC will seek to revalidate its title with an extensive roster that includes Tomás Etcheverry, the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas, Nicolás Kicker, Román Burruchaga and the young Lautaro Midón.

For its part, San Lorenzo has among the gentlemen Máximo González -one of the most outstanding Argentine tennis players of the season and part of the National Team led by Guillermo Coria-, and the youngsters Luciano Ambrogi, Valentín Garay and Alejo Lingua Lavallén. For the BALTC women, among others, Lourdes Carlé, the young Candela Vázquez and the former professional Florencia Labat will play.

Once again, Club Belgrano enlists Juan Manuel and Francisco Cerúndolo. It is not the only club with brothers sharing a team. Carla, Katja and Camila Markus play for the Rational Sports Association; for Sociedad Hebraica Argentina, Joaquíon and Federico Aguilar Cardozo; and for Ferro Carril Oeste, Valerio and Leonardo Aboian.

The Caballito club presents another luxury curiosity: it has three Davis Cup champions -Guido Pella, Federico Delbonis, Renzo Olivo-, in addition to Pedro Cachin, debutant in the Major in 2023. Among the ladies, the Green will compete with Lucía Peyre , the youth players Luisina Giovannini and Sol Larraya Guidi, and the former professional Mariana Díaz Oliva.

In Club Comercio, another regular host of this competition, Facundo Díaz Acosta (his entire family represents the club in the different categories of the AAT Interclubs) and Matías Descotte will play. The women’s team is led by Jazmín Ortenzi.

GEBA is not far behind and wants to claim champion for the second time among men (the only one was in 2017) with players of the caliber of Sebastián Báez, the Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild, Genaro Olivieri and Francisco Comesaña. The women, three-time champions between 1945 and 1947, present young blood among the women, with Lourdes Ayala and Chiara Di Genova at the helm.

If we talk about candidates, Tenis Club Argentino was strongly reinforced for this edition: the German Daniel Altmaier is joined by Facundo Bagnis, Thiago Tirante, Mariano Navone, Andrea Collarini, Juan Bautista Torres, Juan Manuel La Serna and another Davis Cup champion: Leonardo Mayer .

Luciano Darderi, Felipe Meligeni Alves, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Guido Andreozzi, Alex Barrena and another cupbearer: Carlos Berlocq will play for Harrods. River’s women will be led by Julia Riera, one of the best Argentine rackets of the moment, while Racing makes its reappearance in the top category with Santiago Rodríguez Taverna, Hernán Casanova and Lautaro Corthey at the helm.
