Robin Koch tries to send his teammate Tuta to the right side with a long ball, but Boné Uaferro was careful and easily runs past the Frankfurt player before letting him out with a strong physical illusion – good move by the central defender.

The spectators in the Ludwigsparkstadion are still waiting in vain for a conclusion. Frankfurt now has more possession of the ball, but the hosts cleverly keep Eintracht away from their own box. The home side’s defensive department is doing a good job so far.

Frankfurt apparently still needs a little time to really get into the game. The Hessians have more possession of the ball, but are not yet able to advance into the final third. Saarbrücken played well and at times established themselves in the opponent’s half.

When the opponent has the ball, the home team’s formation changes to a compact 4-5-1 system. Rüder Ziehl’s team understandably retreats deep into their own half and hopes for transition moments after winning the ball. The guests from Hesse first have to crack this bulwark…

Marcel Gaus throws a first long throw near the baseline into the guests’ box. Today, this can also be a means for the outsider to set an offensive tone, even if Frankfurt can easily clean up this scene.

Today’s game will be officiated by referee Daniel Siebert. He is assisted on the sidelines by Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn.

17:50

There is no question that the guests from Frankfurt are the favorites going into the game. Even though Dino Toppmöller’s team has only won once in the last five games, while the hosts are unbeaten in League Three for four games, the roles are clearly assigned before kick-off. The respective starting positions are not unusual for either team. Nevertheless, the guests from Hesse should have known since the last cup round at the latest that the Saarlanders can be damn unpleasant to play against. Rüdiger Ziehl’s team has nothing to lose and today has the chance to possibly eliminate the next title contender here. However, this requires another sensation in the Ludwigsparkstadion…

17:38

The home side remain true to their usual 5-3-2 formation and are making two personnel changes compared to the goalless draw in the league against Preußen Münster. In midfield, Kasim Rabihic moves into the starting line-up for Julius Biada, while top striker Kai Brünker replaces Simon Stehle in the double leadership. Of course, Marcel Gaus and Patrick Sontheimer, the decisive goalscorers from the duel with Bayern, are also in the starting line-up. With a victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, the Saarlanders would have finally secured their reputation as absolute favorites. In addition, reaching the quarter-finals would result in a mere 1.7 million euros – a hefty sum for the team currently eleventh in the third division.

17:26

The guests from Frankfurt are playing in a very offensive 3-4-3 system today. Compared to the defeat in the Bundesliga against FC Augsburg last weekend, coach Toppmöller is making a total of four personnel changes. In midfield, Aaronson and Larsson have to sit on the bench and are replaced by Hasebe and Nkounkou. There is also a lot of swapping on offense: Götze and Chaïbi move into the starting line-up for Knauff and Buta. Even though things are currently anything but smooth in the league for the 2018 cup winners, the quarter-finals are now a clear goal for Eintracht.

17:13

Another cup evening in the Ludwigsparkstadion is coming up, and there is great excitement in the air long before kick-off. Eintracht Frankfurt have so far been able to easily get into the last 16 teams of the DFB Cup thanks to victories against Lokomotive Leipzig and Viktoria Köln. Today the last season’s finalist may have a much more difficult task ahead of them, because what 1.FC Saarbrücken has done in the cup season so far has probably already gotten around to Frankfurt. In the first round, the Saarlanders won over Karlsruher SC and in the second round, Rüdiger Ziehl’s team achieved THE cup sensation of the current season: with a goal in the 96th minute, they turned the game against Bayern and thus bowled against all expectations the German record champions from the cup – will the spectators in the Ludwigsparkstadion expect another magical night today?

Welcome to the round of 16 of the DFB Cup and the duel between 1.FC Saarbrücken and Eintracht Frankfurt! The game kicks off at the Ludwigsparkstadion at 6:00 p.m.
