Antonio Juliano, a former footballer known in particular for having played sixteen years for Napoli between 1962 and 1978, twelve of which as captain, has died at the age of 80. Juliano was born in 1942 in Naples and began his career in the youth team of his hometown team. He played as a midfielder and became captain at just 23 years old, in 1966. With Napoli he achieved two second places and won the Italian Cup twice, in 1962 and 1976. In 1978 he left Napoli to play one last season for Bologna.
He also played for many years in the national team: he was part of the team that won the 1968 European Championship and came second in the 1970 World Cup. After retiring he became manager of Napoli and in the 1980s he contributed to the construction of the team that won the first championship in 1987. Scudetto in the history of the club, contributing to the purchase of players such as Ruud Krol and above all Diego Armando Maradona.
