NewTuscia – VITERBO – Simone Forina is the “Athlete of the Year 2023” for the Panathlon Club of Viterbo who proclaimed him during the Convivial of greetings held on the evening of last Friday 15 December.
It is in fact the custom of the Panathlon International – Club of Viterbo – to reward those in Tuscia who have deserved in the sporting field during the year. The prize went to Simone Forina, sport fishing champion. Kayak fishing, that is, a particular fishing technique carried out aboard a special canoe which moves under the guidance of the fisherman in the area assigned for the competition. Whoever gets a heaviest “cerignolo” wins. The caught fish, after checks by the competition officials, is released back into the water. Simone Forina, who achieved important victories during the year, is part of the national Kayak fishing team and will soon represent Italy in the World Championship.
The “Panathlon 2023 Award” intended for sports clubs was awarded to VITERSPORT of Viterbo, a sports club that has been operating in the city for decades and is a breeding ground for champions of various disciplines, including paralympic athletes. Worth remembering is the cyclist Mauro Cratassa who was national champion several times.
The “Manager of the Year” award was awarded to Domenico Petti, Judo practitioner and coach, not only sporting, but professional for the police. Francesco Dimitri, a competitive skier who has been victorious for years in the downhill specialties, obtained a “Special Mention”, while the “Panathlon Junior” award went to Giuseppe Guerra for athletics, discus throwing specialty, but also because
promising rugby player.
On the occasion of the Convivial evening, two new members were presented: Giulio Marini, former mayor of Viterbo, former president of the Province, former Senator and Deputy always committed to sport in the city, presented by the member president Pica, then Carmine Matarazzo for the his commitment to vintage cars, a specialty for which no one in the club had ever covered the box, presented by Council Member Giancarlo Bandini.
After the intervention of the Club president Alessandro Pica who recalled the events organized by the Club in the 2023 year, Member Carlo Aronne read a letter of good wishes sent to the Club by the Bishop of Viterbo Piazza, prevented from personally participating. Mayor Chiara Frontini, ordinary member of the Panathlon Club of Viterbo, was present and brought greetings from the City, confirming the Council’s commitment to promoting sporting activity for everyone, especially disabled people. Ugo Baldi, Provincial Delegate of Viterbo, was present for CONI Lazio. The evening closed with a greeting from the Deputy Governor of Area 14 – Lazio – Andrea Stefano Marini Balestra, before the bell tolled by the President.
