Liverpool FC as group winners in the Europa League in the round of 16

Coach Jürgen Klopp suffered a defeat with Liverpool FC at the end of the Europa League group phase. The Premier League club’s unrehearsed B team lost 1:2 (1:2) at Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium on Thursday.

Despite the second defeat in the preliminary round, the Reds made it into the knockout round as leaders of Group E. Jarell Quansah’s goal (39th minute) to equalize was not enough for Liverpool. Mohammed Amoura (32nd) and Cameron Puertas (43rd) made Union’s home win perfect.

Since FC Toulouse won 2-1 (0-0) at LASK from Linz in the parallel game in Group E, the French secured second place with eleven points behind Liverpool (twelve). St. Gilloise (8) will continue to play in the Conference League in the new year, LASK (3) has been eliminated.

Ajax reaches Conference League

Things went very well for national player Pascal Groß. He secured first place in Europa League Group B with European Cup debutants Brighton & Hove Albion and thus reached the round of 16. In the top game of the two already qualified clubs, Brighton won 1-0 (0-0) against league leaders Olympique Marseille with a late goal from Joao Pedro (88th), with the English OM (twelve) catching up with 13 points.

In the parallel game, after a largely botched group phase, Ajax Amsterdam fought for at least third place with their first win and thus a place in the Conference League intermediate round. With German goalkeeper Diant Ramaj in the starting line-up, Ajax beat the previous third party AEK Athens 3-1 (2-1).

AS Roma beat Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0 (2-0). Belgium’s star striker Romelu Lukaku scored in the sixth Europa League home game in a row. However, it wasn’t enough for the 30-year-old and his team to win the group, but only for second place.

At the same time, Slavia Prague beat Servette Geneva 4-0 (4-0) and moved into the next round as the leaders of Group G.
