Milan Premier Padel P1 2023, everything easy for the big names in the round of 16. Eliminate all the Italians

The curtain has just fallen on another day of the Milano Premier Padel P1 2023, last season event of the Premier Padel circuit. In an Allianz Cloud increasingly full of spectators, they took place today all matches valid for the round of 16 of both tables and the show was a lot. Let’s go see what happened.

In the men’s draw everything was easy for Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan: the two Spaniards, number 1 in the seeding, dominated from start to finish against Fernandez/Rubio and won with a double 6-1. Lebron and Galan thus secured the quarter-final against Mendez/Javier Rico, today capable of beating Arroyo/Alonso (14) with a double 6-4.

All the other top seeds also respected their predictions: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (2) beat Nieto/Sanz (10) with a double 6-4, Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno (3) they beat Munoz/Bautista 6-4 6-3 and, finally, Paquito Navarro and Federico Chingotto (4) won 6-2 6-3 against last year’s finalists Bergamini/Ruiz (9).

Therefore, the possibility remains alive that the top four seeded couples will reach the semifinals, but for this to become reality, Tapia/Coello, Stupa/Di Nenno and Paquito/Chingotto will need to win tomorrow respectively against Gonzalez/Garrido (today 6-4 6-2 against Campagnolo/Esbri), Zapata/Guerrero (advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to the withdrawal of Belasteguin/Yanguas, who arrived due to an injury to the Argentine) and Tello/Ruiz (7-5 6-0 against Barahona/Garcia).

In the women’s draw Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez did not disappoint: the world number 1s destroyed Rodriguez/Talavan 6-0 6-1 and secured the fourth against Icardo/Riera (today 6-3 1-6 6-1 against the very young Alonso/Ustero). Well then too Delfina Brea and Bea Gonzalez (3), who destroyed Clasca/Piltcher with a double 6-0 and earned tomorrow’s match against Jensen/Virseda (today 6-0 6-2 against the Italians Carlotta Casali and Emily Stellato).

Finally, successes also for Alejandra Salazar/Sofia Araujo (4) and Jessica Castello/Aranzazu Osoro (6): the former won by a landslide against Barrera/Merino due to the withdrawal of the latter at 6-0 4-0 and won the fourth against Llaguno/Sainz (today 7-6 6-2 against the Italian Carolina Orsi and the Spanish Carla Mesa), while Castello/Osoro prevailed against Martinez/Perez 6-7(6) 6-1 6-4 and guaranteed themselves tomorrow’s match against the increasingly surprising Goenaga/Martinez (today double 6-4 against Canovas/Velasco after yesterday’s magnificent victory against the n.2 seeds Triay/Ortega).
