NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Hospitalized After Fall, Broken Hip During Concert

Abdul-Jabbar, 76, was scheduled for surgery Saturday, Deborah Morales told CNN. The former Los Angeles Lakers star was attending a concert Friday night when he fell, according to Deborah Morales.

“We are all very grateful for all the support given to Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who helped Kareem on scene, as well as the medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are caring for Kareem right now,” Deborah Morales said.

The statement did not specify which concert Abdul-Jabbar was attending when he was injured.

Abdul-Jabbar76, began his NBA career in 1969 with the Milwaukee Bucks, but is best remembered as a vital player for the Los Angeles Lakers during the dominant “Showtime” era of the 1980s He led Los Angeles to five NBA championships.

Abdul-Jabbar, a 7-foot-2 center wearing goggles, held the NBA points record until he was surpassed by LeBron James in February. Abdul-Jabbar, a six-time NBA MVP, had held this record for 39 years.
