Nick Kyrgios Confirms Withdrawal from 2024 Australian Open

MADRID, 9 (EUROPA PRESS)

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios confirmed this Saturday that he will not compete in the Australian Open, the first ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, for the second consecutive year.

The 28-year-old tennis player has only played one match in 2023, on grass in Stuttgart in June, and his retirement seemed inevitable when his name was absent from the registration list for the ‘big one’ in Melbourne next month.

“It’s a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open. Obviously, it breaks my heart. I have a lot of amazing memories there and I just want to get back to playing at the top of my game and doing well, and I need a little more time,” Kyrgios said on social media.

Kyrgios withdrew on the eve of his first-round match at Melbourne Park in January and revealed he would need knee surgery. At that time he was optimistic, believing that the downturn would not be too long; He returned in June, but relapsed again.

Kyrgios, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, withdrew just before the London ‘great’, this time citing a wrist injury, and has not been seen on a court since. The oceanic is not currently listed in the ranking due to the length of his absence.
