Nottingham Forest is furious and officially demands that referee Jones never blows the whistle again

Nottingham Forest is asking the British referees’ association, the PGMOL, never to be assigned referee Robert Jones again, various British media report. The Athletic, among others, writes that the Premier League club is furious because of some controversial decisions by the referee in the lost match with Bournemouth (2-3).
Last Saturday there was a lot of commotion in England about a red card for Forest defender Willy Boly. The latter captured the ball from Adam Smith with a sliding slide. Smith’s foot landed on Boly, meaning the foul didn’t appear to be from the man, but onto the man. Still, referee Rob Jones gave a second yellow card to Boly.
For a long time, Boly’s teammates seemed to be fighting for a result. Former Manchester United striker Anthony Elanga and Chris Wood defused Solanke’s double. However, in the 94th minute, the English striker scored again and plunged Forest into mourning: 2-3.
It is the second time in the current season that Forest have complained to the PGMOL about Jones. The club previously also felt wronged by the referee in the 3-2 loss to Manchester United.
The Telegraph understands that referees’ association chairman Howard Webb has apologized to Forest. The former referee acknowledges that Jones has made a ‘serious mistake’. For Forest, the cloth is not enough: the club never wants to be assigned Jones again.
The red card was watched with complete astonishment in the Sky Sports studio on Saturday. Mike Dean, former Premier League referee, was present and explained that VAR, even if it wanted to, could not intervene.
“The VAR cannot interfere with yellow cards, only with direct red cards.” The question was quickly raised whether that rule should not change. “I think they’re going to change that too, they’re already looking at it with a view to next season,” Dean replied.
