Novak Djokovic Faces Rising Competition: Is He Slowing Down?

“When does this guy get tired or when does he no longer have motivation?” Becker asked himself: “Novak is still the dominator of the tennis scene, he won three of four Grand Slams and then was in that legendary Wimbledon final against Alcaraz the second winner.”

From his point of view, this final was “the best match of the year,” said the six-time Grand Slam winner: “Djokovic against Alcaraz was out of this world. If you compare it with other athletes and sports, there is nothing much better to offer sports.”

But of course the question arises: “How long can he keep this up? He will be 37 next year in May. Alcaraz and Co. will now be a year older, more mature, more experienced, better.”

Nevertheless, it is best for tennis “if Djokovic remains strong and the younger generation comes closer.”

Novak Djokovic faces more competition

Becker expects Djokovic to add one or two Grand Slam titles to his 24 so far. But there is likely to be significantly more resistance: “I believe that Alcaraz and Co. will present him with a bigger bill.”

In total, Djokovic only lost seven matches this year – five of them against players younger than 23 years old.
